Any whole house filter can make sure that your water is cleaner and purer than it was before. But not all of them can do that while keeping your water pressure at respectable levels rather than at a trickle.

Springwell’s Whole House Water Filter System is specifically designed to offer excellent filter life and water pressure for any size of household. In this review, we’ll examine whether that will make it the right choice for your home — or whether a different option might be better suited to your needs.

How it works

The Springwell Whole House Filter System is equipped with four-stage filtration. It attaches at the point of entry for your house’s water supply. And that means each drop of water in your house will go through:

  • A KDF filter. It uses copper and zinc granules to remove chlorine and other contaminants.
  • A catalytic carbon filter. This popular filter type removes organic compounds that can make your water smell and taste bad, as well as chemicals that can make it unhealthy to drink.
  • A filter housing that helps maintain water pressure while increasing purifying power.
  • A 5 micron sediment filter to remove any trace of sand, dirt, silt, and clay.

That’s a pretty impressive list of filters — but it comes with a caveat that we’ll explore in the next section.

Performance

Though Springwell’s website lists their systems as being made from “certified parts”, they do not appear to be registered with the NSF and ANSI. This means that while their filter systems look to be up to par, they have not yet gone through the rigorous testing needed to ensure that their filtering claims are accurate. This isn’t a dealbreaker so much as a flaw, seeing as the company has thousands of satisfied owners.

Flow Rate and Water Pressure

This Springwell system is available in three different sizes. Each accommodates a certain number of bathrooms in your home. And if you choose the appropriate size, it fairly well guarantees that you’ll have a great flow rate and water pressure.

Estimates place flow rate anywhere from 9 to 20 gallons per minute. That’s more than enough pressure for any size of household to keep their purified water running all day long.

Filter replacement

One of the main benefits of Springwell’s Whole House Filter System is how long it lasts. The main tank is certified for 1,000,000 gallons of filtering. That’s about 10 years of use for an average home!

The only thing you’ll need to regularly replace is the sediment filter. It should be replaced about every 6 to 9 months, at a cost of about $20 per replacement.

Cost

The upfront cost of Springwell’s Whole House Filter System is enough to sticker shock some potential owners. At anywhere from $850 to $1650, that’s understandable. But when you break that cost down over the 10 years of filter life the system offers, it’s really not a bad deal. It works out to less than a penny per gallon over time, making it quite affordable in the long run.

Product Variations

Another strength of Springwell’s system is its ability to be customized to fit your home. Choose from options for 1-3 bathrooms, 3-6, or 7+ to get optimal flow rates. And if you’re concerned about bacteria and viruses in your water, you can also add a UV filter stage to any of the systems.

Lifespan and Warranty

The average lifespan of the Springwell Whole House System is 10 years, or 1,000,000 gallons. That’s assuming you regularly replace the sediment filters. Failure to do so will reduce the overall lifespan of your system.

And the system is covered by a lifetime warranty, protecting you from any manufacturer defects for the entire life of the system.

Installation

As with all whole house filter systems, installing Springwell’s will be challenging. This is the nature of the beast when it comes to this type of filter. If you’d like something you can install on your own with ease, consider an under sink water filter system instead.

But if you do want to try DIY installing Springwell’s Whole House Filter, there’s good news: The company also offers quick-connect fittings that you can add on for about $150. That will remove the need to work with more complicated plumbing fittings, making this one of the easiest whole house systems to install. Recap

If you’re looking for long-term filtering power and great water pressure, Springwell is probably your best bet. Its lack of NSF certifications is a downside, but the system itself seems to do a great job. And with the quick-connect add on, it can be one of the easiest whole-house filter systems to install on your own.
